FAQ/Contact

Q: How does buying files work?

A: I am currently having some issues with the downloader plugin, so after you purchase any files from the site, I will email them directly to you within 24-48 hours. You may receive an error during checkout, but the payment functionality still works fine. I will be transitioning to a new system soon

Q: How can I buy your models?

A: If you have your own printer (or know someone who does), you can purchase 3D print files (.STL) for most of my models. Some models are also available for physical purchase through 3rd party vendors 3DPTrain and Thangs.

Q: Will you make new models?

A: While I am not currently taking commissions for new designs, I will occasionally upload models that I’ve designed for personal projects (for example, the Cleveland RTA cars).

Q: Can you print something for me?

A: No; I currently only have limited access to a resin printer for prototyping and troubleshooting purposes, though that may change in the future. Please note that for quality control purposes I will never print a model that is not my own design.

Q: Can you scale your models to a different scale?

A: No, but you (or whoever prints your files) can do it yourself; it is actually very easy! I’ve written a short guide on how to do so here.

Q: Why can’t I find/buy some models anymore?

A: I will occasionally de-list models for view or sale for a few reasons. Sometimes the original commissioner of the model will request that I not sell the design. My quality standards have also improved over the years, and I feel some early designs are no longer up to said standards. Some examples of models that are no longer available for purchase/download:

  • Monon Passenger Cars
  • Sykes-Seagull Railbus (never available for purchase)
  • Ingalls 4S
  • NYC Xplorer/NH Dan’l Webster

Q: Who are you anyway?

A: I have been involved in the hobby since around 2015 and start First Person Scale Models in 2017 in high school after being introduced to 3D printing there. My primary goal with the business was, and still is, to inspire people to make and sell their own model railroad 3D printed items. Back then I had plenty of time and energy to take custom orders for models, which I would 3D print and sell as one-offs. I continued this business model into college when I began transitioning to file sales and 3rd party printers given my lack of time and space. I’m currently working full time as an engineer in Cleveland, OH. Some other things that take up my time and prevent me from operating FPSM full-time include:

  • My own layout and MRR projects
  • Photography
  • Cosplay
  • Pancake (pictured below)
